best of...

I ran out of ideas for my Best of list. So if there is any thing you want to know that was my Best of 2008, post it in the comments and I will post it.

best thing that happened to me in 2008

This is finally the one where the answer is...
Jason Castro.
On April 23, 2008, American Idol aired the cheezy Ford Commerical they made for the song Tainted Love. Each Idol was dressed up in a goth costume. That was the beginning of the end. The next day, one girl posted on the American Idol forum that they thought Jason looked good dressed in Goth and now... 8 months later... I created (along with my new best friends) a website called Jason's Goth Girls. I have met the most wonderful people I have ever known. I have made life long friends. My health improved. I gained confidence in myself. I have done things that I never would have done before. As I like to say... I'm not who I was. I have changed for the better. Jason was the catalyst, but its the girls that really changed my life. But without a gorgeous, blue eyed, dreadheaded boy taking a risk and trying out for American Idol and then having talent to boot, I'd be in the same rut that I was stuck in for far too long. So thank you Jason. Thank you for everything. And to my Goth Girls... I have no words.

best girl crush of 2008

I will admit that I have many girl crushes. But this year, I have a brand new one.

Rachel Maddow

So smart, so witty, so snarky, so right.
What's not to love?

best reality show of 2008

The Real Housewives of New York. It was a tough decision between this one and the Housewives of Atlanta. Both of these shows are full of hot messes, but the New Yorkers take the cake for me. Seriously. The Countess? Come on! How could this not be the best show??

best teen pop star of 2008

There are so many new teeny bopper pop stars this year that its almost sickening. Miley, Demi, Selena, JoBros... blah. But there is one that I can actually stand. Taylor Swift. I really got into her song, Our Song. Its fun. Even though she's a cross-over country star, she's cute and entertaining. Plus, she's the only one I don't want to injure. So that's a plus.

best movie of 2008

Since I hardly saw any movies this year, I am taking my sister's recommendation for the best movie this year... Wall-e.
Funny things is that I got this movie for Christmas and I haven't even seen it or watched it since then. I just knew that it would be good and plus, I trust my sister's opinion on these things. Maybe I'll watch it tonight so that I can actually watch it in 2008.

best news story of 2008

Did you really think it would have been anything but this?

best website of 2008

This is the funniest site I have ever read. Not only are the cakes actually big piles of hot messes, but the blogger is so snarky. Love it.

Cake Wrecks FTW

best new artist of 2008

I'll bet everyone assumed Jason Castro was gonna be my answer to this one. But no... he will definitely be on my best of list, but for this one I took into consideration artists who actually released their first album this year.
My best new artist, David Cook.

how cool is it to watch that again? still makes me cry.

best song(s) of 2008

I could not decide between these two anyway. Good thing they performed them together at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Whatever You Like by T.I.
Live Your Life by T.I. feat Rihanna

best sports story of 2008

Michael Phelps winning 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. Can anything really top that? It took 36 years for the previous record to be broken and I wonder if it ever will be broken again. Just amazing and very fun to watch.

best discoveries (for me) of 2008

This year, I discovered a few things that I had heard about, but never experienced myself.

1. Gossip Girl - I had heard of this show, but right before Season 2 saw a re-run episode of season 1. I was hooked with about 20 minutes of that show. I searched and found all the episodes of season 1 online and watched them all. Now that we are way into season 2, its my favorite show. I am really glad I gave in.

2. Chelsea Lately - this show only started in November of 2007, but I always thought it was dumb. I never really watched it, but I figured it was another stupid late night talk show. Then in the last few months (since losing my job), I have been up late and randomly watched it. Now, I am totally addicted too. Chelsea Handler is hilarious. I love her snarky ass. I watch it every night.

3. Twilight saga - I took the leap. I resisted for the longest time. But some friends kept talking and talking about these books and so I finally did it. I know they are young adult books, but I loved them. Actually, I am almost done with Breaking Dawn, so I haven't finished the series yet. But damn. I really like them a lot. I also saw Twilight the movie. I am not a full on fan freak, but I understand the inclination.

best celebrity baby of 2008

There were so many babies born this year, but none that were as cute as Harlow Winter Kate Madden, daughter to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. She is so incredibly cute that it hurts. She is my favorite celeb baby EVER (or so far).

best dress of 2008

I am starting today with a few of my favorite things of 2008. I begin with my favorite dress of 2008. This gorgeous Versace dress worn by Anne Hathaway at the Venice Film Festival. It is so beautiful. The color is...gaWH! But I have to say, that the dress comes alive on her body and with her legs.

    about last night...

I wrote this on my forum last night. It seemed like a good description, plus it was full of emotion. So here is what happened last night:

    *jumping up and down*
    omg omg omg omg

i just got home from Spring Awakening. it was amazing! i was so close. a little too far to the left, so i missed a little of the action. but it was so great. i could see the spit, i was so close. i cried like a baby during Those You've Known and the finale. I am such a wuss. and to top off a perfect show... i met the cast! AAAAAAWWWWWWWWW!
they did what's called a "talk back" after the show where a couple cast members come out and answer questions. since the show is controversial, there were lots of questions. hardly anyone stayed. so it was very intimate. the two cast members that spoke played two of the three main rolls. they were so nice and answered everyone's questions. afterwords, i got their autographs on my playbill. i spoke to Christy Altomare, who played Wendla, about living in Cincinnati. She just graduated from the same college my husband went to. Then I met Blake Bashoff, who played Moritz. He replaced the original actor on Broadway and he was amazing and so nice. I was so happy to have met them. But pissed, because it was the one day i forgot to bring my camera. i had changed purses to take a smaller clutch and didn't think to grab it. Oh well. Still awesome. But it gets better! After leaving the theater, i was walking thru to building to get to my car and i turn a corner and the whole rest of the cast was there talking to fans. Insane. It was awesome. I was totally overwhelmed. I managed to bring myself to get the autograph of Kyle Riabko, who played Melchior. He was so nice and awfully dreamy. He asked if I enjoyed the show and was really interested in hearing my response. It was very cool. I got all fangirly. But then felt dumb, because all these kids are WAY younger than me. But so talented. I am jealous. It was such a great night. I met and got the autographs of the 3 lead actors.

So freaking cool! Learn about this show. Seriously. Google that shit.

    thanks mom

This is for my mom. Its one of her favorite Christmas songs. I am posting this for her as a thank you for calling and waking my ass up this morning. It took almost a half hour on the phone before I got myself up, but she kept pestering me until I did. And I am very grateful for that. My whole life, waking me up has never been easy. She is one persistent momma.

    song in my head 12/10/08

    Circus by Britney Spears

    twilight

So... I finally broke down and read it. Twilight. I know its a young adult book, but so many people have told me how great it is. I finish Twilight today. I will be starting New Moon tomorrow. I have to say that I am glad I waited until they were all out, because I cannot imagine waiting for the next book. Twilight had one hell of a cliff hanger. I've been told to finish New Moon, before seeing the movie. So, I will.

    freaking amazing

I don't even know where to start...

Jason Castro had his first post Idol gig last night in Tulsa, OK. He was the headlining act. There were two opening acts: Bryan Jewett & To Have Heroes. None of my friends were going to the show, but we did know that there would be a live cell cast online. As the day went on yesterday, we discovered that there would be a live VIDEO feed of the concert. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it was. I never thought it was possible for me to like him more, but I do. If you think you know who he is based on American Idol, you have no idea. He has matured and gained a confidence that many thought was not possible. But not so much that he is a jerk or anything. He just finally believes in himself. He is still that same goofy guy, but... AH!!!!! I could go on and on, but I will let him speak for himself.
    Hallelujah 11/29/08

    Love Uncompromised 11/29/08

    Shine Your Light 11/29/08

see videos of the rest of the show here.

It was absolutely amazing to watch it streaming live. At one point, there were over 400 people watching the live feed. We were all there in spirit.
This is just the beginning for him. After seeing him last night, it made me realize that its all been worth it. All the blood, sweat and tears that I've put into supporting him and our website... all worth it. Even if he does not become a superstar, he will be around for a long time. And he's got me, for sure.

    inedible jewelry

I found the cutest earrings online & bought some. They came today! I love em. I just thought I would share them. I heard about Inedible Jewelry on Pop Candy the other day. The are hand sculpted and painted. The have all kinds of different foods. I bought the peppermints, cuz they were too cute. When they arrived today, I was really pleased with them, but the neatest part... there was a hand written note thanking me for my purchase. Very cool. Check em out!

    watch this

oh... this blog is totally gonna be about Spring Awakening for the next 3 weeks!

    !!!!!

I seriously have the best sister EVER! She called me today and asked if she could buy me a ticket to Spring Awakening as my Christmas present. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS?? "Are you serious?" was my response to her. She bought it for me and got me 3rd row!
I am going on December 11th. I can hardly wait. I am loading the soundtrack back on to my ipod as we speak. I already know it all, but just to freshen up on it.
Lately, many people have asked me what the show is about. Its about German teenagers in the 19th century who are discovering their sexuality. If you wanna know more, you can read all about it here. AHHHHHH!! I still can't believe it!
    Thank you sissy!!

    dc

David Cook's album came out today. Pre-ordered it on itunes. But it was leaked (on purpose) last week, so I've already been listening to it. I decided to still go ahead and buy it, because I want to support him. He really was the one who deserved to win. Even though I have strong feelings towards another contestant, David was the best performer. So far, the songs I like best on the album are Lie and Bar-ba-sol, but Declaration is growing on me. Check out the album. It's worth the buy.

    song in my head 11/17/08

    In My Place by Coldplay

    poor blog

My blog always seems to be the first thing to be neglected. I should have done Na Blo Po Mo. That would have forced me to blog. Oh well. It's the middle of freaking November. When did that happen? I think its a big shock, because... oh, I don't know... I have to turn on a fan during the day. It's not cold yet. It sucks. I love the cold weather.
My blog is not the only thing that is being neglected right now. The house, the laundry, the dishes, me. My sleeping is all jacked up. I sleep during the day and am wake all night. See what time it is?? Yup. Still awake. Today's excuse is because I drank too much on Saturday night and slept in until 2:30pm today. Craziness. I was tired all day, but (my mom was right) by the time it was bedtime, I am awake. I think I will take a few hour nap here in a few minutes.
Oh... if you read this in time - MOM, CAN YOU PLEASE CALL ME AT 9AM TO WAKE ME UP? Thanks. Remind me that I told you to do it.
Well, I guess I should try sleeping. Then maybe some laundry...

I am WAY late posting this. Few too many cosmos on Saturday night caused me to sleep in and miss the first quarter.
Anyway... Cardinals WON again! They are 7-3. I am so excited. They are playing great. Next week will be the true test. Playing the Giants!! But it will be at home, so they've got that going for them. But the last time the Giants were here, it was for the Super Bowl. So I'm not holding my breath.

    song in my head 11/06/08

    Sweet Medicine by Jason Castro

The boy has been busy writing new songs!!!

    lyrics:

i feel a little lost i feel a little blue
wish i could dim the lights and find my arms around you
(and bury) all this space that keeps two hearts apart
for a moment we'll be diamonds in the dark
cuz you got it, my reason, my only hope believe me love
cuz you got it, i need it, i cant stay away cuz
you're my sweet sweet medicine baby
you're sweet sweet all of the time
oh sweet sweet medicine save me
save me tonight, save me tonight
i pull you close to me and kiss you in the dark
first time feelings but we know just where to start
we dance beneath the sheets and sing a lovers song
you seem so beautiful so beautiful you are
cuz you've got it, my reason, my only hope believe me
you're my sweet sweet medicine baby
you're sweet sweet all of the time
oh sweet sweet medicine save me
save me tonight, save me tonight
blue skies, baby gives me blues skies
baby gives me blue skies, how i love my blue skies....ohhhhhh
cuz you've got it, my reason, my only hope believe me love
cuz you've got it, i need it, i cant stay away cuz
you're my sweet sweet medicine baby
you're sweet sweet all of the time
    oh sweet sweet medicine baby
save me tonight, save me tonight save me tonight
sweet sweet all of the time, save me tonight, save me tonight
    save me tonight

These were taken at the tattoo shop before she wrapped them up. She wanted me to keep them wrapped all night, so I took the pictures then. I had to share. I love them!

edited to add: This is where I had it done, by Heather Alvin.

    i cannot wait

Tomorrow Tonight I am getting a new tattoo! Actually it will be two, but done at the same time. I have an appointment for 6:30pm. I am sooooooooo excited. I take this very seriously. When I turned 30, I wanted to get a tattoo to memorialize the event. But at the time, I did not know what I wanted to get. So, instead of just getting something random for the sake of doing it, I put it off. Earlier in the year, I finally figured out what I wanted and where. And now, since Monday is my 31st birthday, I am ready to do it. Over the course of 13 years, I have only gotten 3 tattoos. Each and every time, it took a long time for me to decide what to get. Like I said, I take it seriously. I know it is permanent and don't want to regret it later. I know that once I think it thru and make the decision, I will not regret it. It does hurt. Yes it does. But you know what? The pain lasts only as long as it takes for the tattoo. After that, its over. I can handle pain, as long as I know that it won't last forever. Mind over matter. You just don't watch and squeeze the hand of the person you bring with you. (Chris is gonna come with me.) I often curse under my breath during it too. But fer real!! I am so happy to finally get them done!! Of course I will photo it!

    sports night

Tonight is a major sports night!! It is the first regular season game for the Suns. They are playing the Spurs and I am VERY excited. New coach... so we shall see.

Also, the World Series might end tonight. They are gonna attempt to pick up where they left off on game 5 from Monday night. According to my sister, its still raining in that area, but not as bad as Monday. I really hope that they do get to play. I want the Phillies to win.

I guess I'll be doing a lot of channel flipping and picture-in-picture.

edited to add: Suns won & the Phillies won! Great night.
