American Idol S.11 - Top 7 part deux
alright Idol. Lets do this. 7 people left... still.
I was clearly wrong with my prediction last week. Or was I? You never know what Nigel has up his sleeve. I have learned that you can never trust the "voting" on these shows. Last week's outcome sure made for drama and good TV, didn't it? convenient.
theme: something stupid with #1 songs and soul songs
Hollie Cavanagh - Rolling In The Deep by Adele: Please don't really sing this. This the song that everyone thinks they can sing, because they sound so great when the sing it in the shower. Please add Adele to the list of artists NOT to sing. She did not "make it her own." I have to say that it was a decent copy of the original. Saying that is not saying much.
Colton Dixon - Bad Romance by Lady Gaga: All family band on stage. That's the best part of this. He's gotten over confident. Or should I say, cocky. I dislike this arrangement.
Elise Testone - No One by Alicia Keys: I really like the low part of her voice.
Wind machine was out of control!! She looked sorta like Mariah Carey during this performance. This is not her style. She sung it great, but she should have done it in her own fashion style.
Phillip Phillips - You Got It Bad by Usher: friggin awesome. I was gonna say "fuckin," but my mom hates when I cuss.
Jessica Sanchez - Fallin by Alicia Keyes: Seriously? Two Alicia Keyes songs in one night? Whatever.
Skylar Laine - Born This Way by Lady Gaga: More friggin Gaga? This is out of control. But hot damn, this was cool. I said it last week, but I think she should win this thing. Psst. Nigel, if you want a commercial success from your winner, make it her.
Joshua Ledet - I Believe by Fantasia: This is the first time (I think) that a former winner's anthem was sung on the show. Interesting. This is was not his best. It would be good on his album, for variety, but its too dramatic for a performance on the show. Unless you are the winner... of course.
Hollie Cavanagh - Son of a Preacher Man by (insert artist here, but it was the Aretha version): Eh.
Colton Dixon - September by Earth Wind and Fire: Now this version I like. Not necessarily his voice. He was off and a bit nasaly. This had potential. Also, this is the artist he should stick with being. He even said it himself after the first performance. When he tries to rock out, it looks fake.
Elise Testone - Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye: On a couch? Really? This is not her. My crit for this one is the same as the last. Get back to being yourself. You are getting lost. You are what the fans like, not this person who wears sheer clothing and sings on a couch. Its these choices, not her voice, that is gonna get her kicked off soon.
Phillip Phillips - In the Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett: Forced. Inauthentic. Bathroom break song.
Jessica Sanchez - Try A Little Tenderless by Otis Redding: soooooooooo boring. I thought, with the slow beginng, that the song was gonna open up and be crazy. It got there, but not at the right moment. It was fail.
Skylar Laine - Heard It Through the Grapevine by (insert artist here): Good, but boring too.
Joshua Ledet - A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke: Exact same crit as Skylar. see above.
bottom 3: Elise, Hollie, Joshua
p.s. to the judges: People are in the bottom 3, because you have a bottom 3. There's only a few people left, so someone decent is bound to be there. duh.

American Idol S.11 - Top 7
how cute is my new layout?
I was 100% on my bottom 3 last week. Not sure if the right person went home, however I was not upset at all. I didn't realize Deandre was from San Jose. I lived there when I was little.
If Steven Tyler wears robes in public, I wonder what he wears when he gets out of the shower? Wait. No I don't. That's a scary image. sorry!
theme: Songs from 2010 or sooner (These themes are much easier than they have been in the past.)
Skylar Laine - Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You by Kellie Pickler: Slightly nasal-y at the beginning. She didn't need guitar. The only thing about it is that it made the performance look different. So I guess, in a way, it did help. If she hadn't had the guitar she would have danced around like she always does. So... idk. I'm confused.
Colton Dixon - Love The Way You Lie by Skylar Grey: I had no idea this was a song on its own. Its way better with Eminem and sung by Rihanna. It was brave singing a song that Rihanna sung the shit out of and that is so well known in another context. This was too overdramatic for me. No way did he pull ahead of Phillip with this.
duet #1 Elise and Phillip: LOVED Phillip on this. He was so subtle and great. Elise might have over sung in comparison to him. She might-a could-a toned it down to match him.
back to 2010? Like it was THAT long ago? dumb Ryan.
Jessica Sanchez - Stuttering by Jazmine Sullivan: So over her.
Joshua Ledet - Runway Baby by Bruno Mars: Do we read anything in to the fact that he ignored the girl on the stairs? nah. A little oversung at the beginning. There are a lot of words and they are stuccato. It felt like he was having a tough time getting all out. Not as entertaining as I was hoping.
duet #2 Colton and Skylar: yeah, yeah. Dating. Whatever. They have no time to date. They just makeout all the time.
If Skylar wins, I feel like she will be the most commercially successful. To me, she is the one that is ready to go right now. Last week, I said a girl will not win, not I kinda want Skylar to win.
Hollie Cavanagh - Perfect by Pink: All of sudden Hollie's english accent is much stronger. Shocker. SNOOOOOOZE-fest
Phillip Phillips - Give A Little More by Maroon 5: Turning a Maroon 5 song into a slight DMB song was not successful at all. This is kinda fail. I wish Jimmy had talked him out of it. His voice was strong, but the song was way off.
duet trio #3 Joshua, Hollie, Jessica: This was all sorts of scary. Please stop singing Kelly. Add her to the Mariah, Celine and Whitney list. I muted this.
Elise Testone - You and I by Lady Gaga: Not sure how I felt about this. I wanted to like it more than I did. Let go and kept control? What JLo? idk
bottom 3: Hollie, Elise, Phillip (but the 3 doesn't matter, because Hollie is going)

keep your eyes open
Don't let the night become the day
Don't take the darkness to the grave
I know pain is just a place
The will has been broken
Don't let the fear become the hate
Don't take the sadness to the grave
I know the fight is on the way
When the sides have been choosen

American Idol S.11 - Top 8
Guess I was way off last week. Oh well.
The Starbucks I have here is making me very giddy. Maybe I can get thru an entire episode without wanting to jump out a window.
theme: Songs from the 80's
FUCK! i just had a bunch of stuff written and it disappeared.
Deandre Brackensick - I Like It by DeBarge: I was not blown away. Each performance sounds the same. (the rest of this is what was lost, but I didn't feel like re-typing it.)
Elise Testone - I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner: What is she wearing? Is that one sleeve missing, because the other stole it? I actually liked it. I am just so glad that she did not sing Hallelujah.
duet #1 Skylar and Colton: oooh. Bad Colton. yikes. He has fallen off my favs list. yikes. This whole thing was a mess and it was too long. I will admit that I song harmony along with them. It needed the help. Did the judges see a different performance???
Phillip Phillips - That's All by Genesis: He put a lot more anger in to it than Genesis did. However, if you listen the lyrics, it is a mad song. Odd. I've never really noticed that before when hearing the song. Strange mis-mash of the lyrics, but if you didn't know, you never would. I really like this kid.
duet #2 Hollie and Deandre: Deandre rocked those harmonies. Hollie is a hot mess.
Joshua Ledet - If You Don't Know Me By Now by Simply Red: Lordy, Lordy. Nice one. His craziness can get to be too much, but it was still good. I would never listen to his album though. Not sure who actually would.
A girl WILL NOT win this year.
Jessica Sanchez - How Will I Know by Whitney Houston: No. You are 5. You do not get to have an alter ego. This is such an 80's song. So dated. She still annoys me. I figured it out. She belongs on Broadway. That would be perfect. She's too technical to be a pop star. She has the voice, but not the uniqueness. Just don't end up face down in the bathtub. Oh. Too soon?
duet #3 Elise and Phillip: Awkward. Phillip does not know what to do with himself. Elise was great and it sounded good, but awkward.
Hollie Cavanagh - What A Feeling by Irene Cara: When I was younger, I used to dance around my room and sung along with the entire Flashdance soundtrack. This song holds a special place in my heart. No one can sing this better than the 7 year me. You know you wish you could hear me sing She's A Maneater. And not mentioning Irene Cara is a travesty.
duet #4 Joshua and Jessica: This was such a strange duet to begin with. George Michael and Aretha Franklin? Who ever woulda thought. This was ok. I was entertained by Joshua. Jessica was trying too hard to match Joshua's ease.
Colton Dixon - Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper: HOLY CRAP. Gwen is AH-MAZING. I want to have her babies. I can't write the way he sung the word "time," but it is annoying. He is fail to me. I really wish he had sung She Bop.
Skylar Laine - Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler: These songs are my childhood. It's tripping me out. These was the best performance of the night. It was really great. It was like a country version, because of her voice, but it was still true to the song itself. The very last note was out of control. She got ahead of herself. However, the best version I have ever of this song is by my friend Karin.
bottom 3: Deandre, Hollie and Elise
